Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif time and again greets the nation sometime on the discovery of good quality copper, iron and gold deposits, giving false hopes to the people the same would go a long way in bringing prosperity to the country, and to end the load shedding and to reduce the electricity price at another time, yet inaugurating already announced projects for third or even fourth time and so on…. Where is the actual economic turnaround which he had promised before election? His government doesn’t believe in serving the masses and has done nothing to providing cheap electricity to consumers, making the exports viable, increasing employment generation for young graduates, enhancing agricultural yield and turning around the national economy. He had assured the people that his government would fulfill its commitment to eliminate load shedding before the completion of its current tenure and electricity would be provided to them on cheaper and affordable tariff which has been almost doubled after his coming into the power, but the situation on the ground is quite opposite. He had promised the economic revival of Pakistan but what he could do is the economic revival of his own and his party leaders. One scandal after another has become a routine matter. The government is highly corrupt to its very foundations. There is no single office that is free of corruption. No government agency can be regarded as clean.
I remember the very wide view one had to take to sum up the full tenure of PPP and more than half of the PML-N government gone by. There was dirty politics, declining economy, an unprecedented sea of local and foreign debts, the flight of capital, lack of gas and electricity, deteriorating civil society, target killings, worst crime rate, poor education system, nonexistent health facilities, bad culture, and what not. Both PPP and PML-N have very close ties with terrorist groups and banned terrorist outfits. PML-N’s top leaders / Ministers can be commonly seen accompanying with members of those banned outfits, reportedly responsible for terrorist attacks on thousands of innocent people including soldiers, police officials and members of other law enforcement agencies. The democracy has proven to be a curse and when the people ask Army to restore the law and order and stabilize the country; these criminal leaders say worst democracy is better than best martial law!
Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif is constantly claiming that there is nothing against him in Panama Leaks but is absolutely silent about how his minor children purchased such an expensive property in London during 1992-93 and how did they establish such a huge Business Empire. Where did the money come from? Through which channel the money was transferred to London if it was not ill-gotten money? Where and how much tax was paid? Matters regarding assets of minor children are supposed to be in hands of parents and not the children. Apparently P.M’s family accumulated illegal assets worth billions of dollars in foreign countries at the expense of national treasure. According to Panama Leaks PM‘s daughter, Maryam, and sons Hasan and Hussain own real estate assets and offshore companies in London not shown on P.M’s wealth statement. Nawaz Sharif has not been able to explain how his children made all this money. In the wake of the presence of all the relevant documentary evidence and constant denial of the Prime Minister, Suffice it to say that many times a flood of lies have to be used to discredit one truth? Unfortunately, after coming to Panama Leaks, Mian Nawaz Sharif absolutely lacks moral and political legitimacy. There is no tradition in our country of leaders resigning on the basis of corruption or poor governance. Our politicians are experts in siphoning off public money, with no accountability and punishment. True accountability needs to be set up without any further loss of time.
Pak Army is known as the best Army in the world because of its fighting strength, spirit, and love for the motherland. Pakistan Army is confronting a number of challenges, including terrorism, extremism, terrorists financing through corruption, interference of foreign spy agencies in the country, protecting hands of the criminals in terrorist activities, militant wings in political parties, hunger and poverty due to rampant corruption fueling terrorism, unholy nexus between major political leaders to protect each other’s crimes and lack of political will in the sitting governments. Pak Army is working with sincerity round the clock for bringing peace to the country and is bracing all the issues with dedication, courage, sincerity, zeal, and a commitment to bring about a positive change in the country. The Operation Zarb-e-Azb, in spite of creating hurdles from different quarters, is going ahead successfully and soon absolute peace and tranquility can be expected to prevail, Insha’Allah. Recently, the Army chief Gen Raheel Sharif has the stressed necessity of across the board accountability for the solidarity, integrity, and prosperity of Pakistan and has rightly said that the war against terror cannot be won unless the menace of corruption is uprooted. He has set a big example of indiscriminate accountability within the Army and has also offered his full support to all for every meaningful effort in that direction. It is impossible to disagree with the call by Army Chief for across the board accountability, if terrorism and extremism is to be rolled back for our peaceful next generation.
We have embarrassed our country a lot already. Today is the time for action, reform, redress, and for us to start a new beginning. The Army has been fighting a battle for the existence of the country against an internal threat, with a focus and determination not seen ever before. Army Chief intends to expose criminal activities of political leaders, their rampant corruption, and their insensitivity towards the people of Pakistan. It is surely a reformist agenda for the betterment of the country. Pak Army has never tried to take over the political government during this round of “elected dictatorship”. To divert the attention of the people from real issues, there is, however, a widespread conspiracy theory spread by the corrupt leadership that the army is lending a hidden hand to make it happen. The escalating political crisis is drawing Pakistan Military into the fray? The question arises how will Army Chief and his corps commanders handle the situation as the politicians have badly failed to resolve the crisis?
Massive T.V programs with persistent mudslinging on the Army and its spy agencies by the so-called representatives of civilian governments are continuing for the last eight years. The ruling PML-N seems to steer clear confrontations with the army. Like always inability, ineptness, selfishness, betraying national interests to enemy countries, poor performance, a family oriented ruling of the country and unprecedented corruption of the government has made it vulnerable to intervention. I think it has created a huge vacuum, which once again needs to be filled by the Military Forces. The people think, today Military is the only viable solution. Everybody is talking about the military alternative. Army is certainly capable of providing alternate leadership to the country. The people of Pakistan are crying for a change of this cruel regime and demanding Army should take the country’s command for a short period and act professionally. Turkey is the role model to follow; Turkish Army took over for quite some time, did its job, and there were real free and fair elections. The people of Pakistan with the exception of few appreciate the Army for repeatedly saving them from the cruel politicians. Current extremely corrupt political setup needs to be changed immediately; a Military government should be formed by deploying honest, loyal and hardworking people in all the departments to solve the problems of the country including restoration of the economy, peace and stability. A little bit of transparency, accountability, and responsibility in governance can go a long way in stabilizing the country. Judiciary should also play its positive role to stabilize the country.
